1) Describe your interviewing strategy.
Strategy:
Target college age students and understand if this opportunity can be successful.
Questions:
- What is your year and major/college?
- Have you ever been tempted to not buy a recommended book and just use supplements like Smokin Notes due to price of textbooks?
- How much do you spend on textbooks each semester?
- Would you rather use e-texts or physical textbooks?
- Would you be willing to participate in a give a book get a book program
2) Conduct the interviews.
3) Reflect on what you learned.
I will admit it felt very unnatural and almost infomercial like to film my interviews. During some interviews I ended up having to rerecord the interview due to laughter between myself and the interviewee. Although at the end of the five interviews I was excited to see a positive response to my give a book get a book program. I was scared many of the students were going to say no they do not use physical textbooks anymore and just prefer to use e-texts or supplements like Smokin Notes, but I was pleasantly surprised that a majority of the interviewees would rather use a physical textbook which would make my program a success. Students are spending thousands to get an education and all seem to have a similar interest in saving as much money as possible. The average student spends anywhere from $300 to $500 on textbooks and supplements each semester and with my program I hope to drastically change that number. I also learned that I am going to be challenged by competition such as rental textbook companies and people not participating due to the need to have access codes still. Although I plan to make my program successful through organization and engaging advertisements.
Hey Domenica,
ReplyDeleteGreat interviews. You seems like you are one of the rare ones who actually did all five good interviews, so good job! I think that your business is very viable as well.
Domenica, your interviews were really great. I can agree that I would like to have a physical textbook as well, so I'm glad to see that your interviewees did also. Overall, you have a great service to offer, keep up the great work. Check out my interviews here - http://mudine.blogspot.com/2016/02/customer-interviews-no-3.html
ReplyDeleteI think your idea is awesome! It would help college students save so much money especially considering the price of the book for this class. I think that your idea will have no competition because yours is way better than a book rental company.
ReplyDeleteHi Domenica!
ReplyDeleteReally great interviews! And I think this is a really great idea too. My only concern would be what if someone wants to trade a paperback, inexpensive book for a hardback, more expensive book. Overall though, you are helping students save money and providing them with ways to get books. Good job! Great job on all of your interviews! I though they all went really well. I also liked how you included what the service was in your interviews. This is definitely a service I would be interested in participating in because it's so costly every semester and I like having the physical text books.
ReplyDeleteHi Domenica;
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your interviews! I really liked the way you approached you potential clients. As I can see, you have opted, as many others, to target other fellow college students in order to do business off of them. I believe this is the way to go for us in our generation and our location is that possible clientele. Kudos and keep it up!
Hello Domenica,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you targeted the right market for your give a book get a book program. I see some potential problems like the one Jennie mentioned about the books not being of equal value. I know new editions of textbooks are released almost every two years and it might be an issue if someone wanted to trade an outdated book for a book that is a new edition. I'm also not sure of how to make this profitable if you are just trading books and not making some money off of the transaction. I found this set of interviews to be the most challenging because the customers were just reading about my idea on a card instead of being able to sell the idea with my presentation.
